WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK?
The purpose of the interactive notebook is to enable you to be a creative, independent thinker and writer. Interactive notebooks will be used for class notes as well as for other activities where you will be asked to express your own ideas and process the information presented by this class.

WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASS?
1 subject FIVE STAR notebook
Social Studies Textbook
Markers/Colored Pencils/Highlighters
Pen or Pencil (to write with)

WHAT GOES ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY NOTEBOOK?
The Right Side of your notebook will be for class notes and reading notes. As you take notes, BE SURE that key ideas are written clearly and that they are supported by examples from either class instruction, reading or discussion. The Right Side will also be used for "Take a Stand" activities where you will be asked to make conclusions and give well-supported personal opinions about the material we have studied in class. "Take a Stand" activities should show that you have mastered the material from the class.

WHAT GOES ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY NOTEBOOK?
The Left Side of your notebook will be used in a variety of ways, INCLUDING HOMEWORK. This side should be where all of your creative and artistic talent come bursting forth!! As we go along, it will include: writing a poem about the material, composing a RAP (reviewing and previewing), drawing a mental map, a graphic organizer, a cause/effect chart, and other similar ideas.

HOW DO I EARN AN "A" ON THE NOTEBOOK?
A student who expects to earn an A or higher grade on the notebook will be one who has taken the time to consistently include extra work, going above and beyond.

HOW WILL MY NOTEBOOK BE GRADED?
They will be checked to see that you are DOING YOUR DAILY WORK. Daily work will be stamped each day with a different stamp based on the assignment. Notebooks will be checked periodically for completeness. All class notes and notebook assignments should be included, even for the days when you were absent. An important part of your notebook is its visual appearance. Your notebook must be neat!!
EACH ENTRY SHOULD BE TITLED AND DATED
Your artistic touch should be visible throughout the notebook. You will often be asked to illustrate, color a timeline, make a cover, etc. I will help show you how each assignment should be done and give you examples so you can get the hang of it.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM ABSENT?
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain homework assignments from a classmate or from your teacher. Also, check the table of contents displayed in the room and on my blog to see what you missed for that day. If it was a worksheet or handout check the blog for a post with a link to the document or ask me in class and I can get you a copy.
